Selection of the proper pregnancy diet plan for you and your baby

In today’s modern world, many families have both parents working to help provide for their children. It becomes especially challenging when a working mother is pregnant as well. Being on the go, both working and meeting the needs at home can be stressful for a woman who is expecting. It becomes vitally important to select the proper pregnancy diet plan to ensure the health and well being of her and her baby.

Choosing the proper pregnancy diet plan is really not all that different from the basic principles of a healthy diet at any time in life. Choosing and eating the correct portions from each basic food group will provide mother and baby with a regular supply of good nutrients and protein to sustain and maintain a good pregnancy.

Here is list of suggestions to consider when following a proper pregnancy diet plan:

Meat and protein group: 6 ounces per day. This includes red meat, eggs, cooked beans, nuts and peanut butter, among others.

Vegetable group: 3-5 servings per day. In any pregnancy diet plan, this would include a variety of vegetables, with dark green leafy vegetables (lettuce and spinach) being the primary vegetable group. Tomatoes, broccoli and carrots are also important in providing proper nutrients for your baby.

Fruit group: 2-4 servings per day. Pregnancy diet plan ideas here would include a healthy amount of citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruit and tangerines), with a mixed bag of apples, bananas, strawberries and peaches mixed in.

Milk group: 3 or more servings per day. Low fat yogurt, milk and certain hard cheeses are important daily ingredients for a balanced pregnancy diet plan. If lactose intolerant, you should consult your physician for the proper alternatives.

Preparation of a proper pregnancy diet plan is important as well. When preparing meals, make sure to keep extra portions of vegetables and fruits in sealed plastic bags in your refrigerator, making healthy snacking easier, especially for a working mom on the go.

Life can become hectic for a working mom, especially when pregnant. Preparing and following the proper pregnancy diet plan will ensure that mom and baby will not only stay healthy during the full term, but help to get any child off to a great start in life.
